We’re thrilled to announce that Sqquid has rolled out an exciting new feature: Sqquid now fully supports and honors Authorize/Capture order statuses from Shopify! This new capability is now live and ready to streamline your order management workflows.

What Does This Mean for You?

If you’re a Shopify merchant, you’re likely familiar with the two key payment flows:

  1. Authorize – Payment is approved but not yet captured (funds are pending).
  2. Capture – Payment is officially captured and the order is processed.

Previously, there was limited support for Authorize/Capture statuses in Sqquid and orders would get processed only once the payent was captured. Now, with our latest update, Sqquid aligns perfectly with Shopify’s order payment workflows, ensuring smoother processing, clearer inventory adjustments, and accurate reporting across all systems.

Recent advancements in Shopify’s fraud detection mechanism now leverage these payment statuses helping the retailer make safer, more informed decisions about transactions. By supporting Authorize and Capture workflows, Sqquid enables you to take full advantage of Shopify’s fraud detection tools, ensuring payments can be reviewed, verified, and captured with confidence while adjusting inventory in the right channels in real time.

How It Works: Inventory Implications

Here’s a breakdown of how these updates impact your inventory flow based on the payment status:

Payment Authorization Workflow:

  • Online order is generated in Shopify with payment authorized only (held for 7 days).
  • Orders processed in Sqquid will show as authorized payments initially.
  • Inventory is adjusted online but awaits final confirmation.
    • If Payment is Captured:
      • The order is processed at the POS.
      • Inventory is updated in-store.
      • DONE
    • If Payment is Canceled:
      • Online inventory is reversed automatically.
      • DONE

For merchants that wish to not use any of these workflows and remain in the simpler and fully automated previous workflow, the breakdown of steps is a lot simpler and immediate:

Payment Captured Workflow:

  • Online order is generated in Shopify with payment captured.
  • Orders processed in Sqquid are reflected as captured payments.
  • Order routing logic is applied.
  • Order is processed at the Point of Sale (POS) and Inventory is adjusted everywhere.
  • DONE
